Our Mission
Leveraging our decades of expertise in agri lending we are committed to equipping financial institutions with the knowledge and resources needed to prudently expand their agricultural business lending portfolio.
To fulfill that mission AgriFinancing has created a hands-on approach to training that does not end with awarding Certificates of Attendance. We stay involved and help Agricultural Lending Officers in translating their acquired knowledge into expanding their loan portfolios
Relevance
The financing gap for Agri-SMEs in the “missing middle,” which are too large for microfinance but unable to access loans from commercial banks, is estimated at $65 billion per year. This gap affects three out of every four agricultural enterprises across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our Vision
The goal of AgriFinancing is to contribute our decades of expertise in agri lending to a thriving and sustainable agricultural sector in Africa, to equip financial institutions with the knowledge to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Access to finance plays a critical role in the transformation of African agriculture. But low lending levels to the Food & Agriculture sector prohibit growth and are based on the erroneous impression that agricultural credit constitutes excessive risk. We need to change that perception.
Relevance
To secure global food supplies by 2050 when the world’s population will reach 9.6 billion, Africa must become part of the solution. With 65% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, the continent has the potential to achieve sustainable food security and play a greater role in feeding the world. More productive land could create a food and agribusiness economy worth $1 trillion by 2030 and transform Africa from a net importer of food into a net exporter.
Decades of Expertise in Agri Lending
Financing agriculture in Africa has been a primary activity for over 15 years. Our team’s experience spans over 17 countries and over time we have collectively trained thousands of bankers.
- Established and led Banco Terra in Mozambique, a dedicated agri-bank with a nationwide presence.
- Designed and managed the Finance4Agriculture and AgriFinancing (U) programs in Kenya and Uganda.
- Incorporated FACTS, East Africa’s first supply chain finance company focused on agri-processors.
- Created the Executive Certificate in Agriculture program for KSMS.
- Served on the AgriFi Investment Committee, promoting sustainable agriculture financing.
- Founded Moving Frontiers and collaborated with Aceli Africa to provide multi-year technical assistance to partner banks.
- Led KIEP250+, Kenya’s largest innovation grant program, recognized for enhancing productivity and value addition.
Learning never stops, and we shall never say we have seen it all. But it has been a journey marked by significant experiences.
